Psychotherapy

Finding the right therapist can be challenging. In order to convey a bit about how I work, I have written some very general thoughts below about the way that I practice. Feel free to contact me if you have specific questions.

Seeking Help

The experience of being human inevitably brings many complexities and difficulties. As such, there are many reasons that one might seek therapy. Perhaps you are feeling overwhelmed by something that happened in your life, such as the end of an important relationship. Or maybe you have had a persistent sense of internal suffering and you do ot fully understand why. Further still, you might have the feeling you are not living your life as fully as you would like. If you are feeling dissatisfied, stressed, or unhappy, it is worth addressing. Talking about how you feel to a therapist can be a crucial part of feeling better and living more meaningfully.

My Approach

It is important to me to provide a space for you to discuss whatever is on your mind in a collaborative and non-judgmental environment that encourages self-exploration. Giving voice to the way that you feel is an important part of the work of therapy. More specifically, my intention is to help you understand yourself better. Over the course of our work, patterns in your way of feeling, thinking, and being will gradually emerge. It is my hope that your sense of who you are will become enhanced as we explore and understand these patterns together. I believe that as you become more fully aware of how your mind works, you will be better able to make choices and foster relationships that lead to a more satisfying and meaningful life. Simply put, you might feel more free. For those familiar with psychotherapy jargon, my theoretical orientation is psychodynamic.
